What's New with Recreation Services Print Article Font Size

With the winter season upon us, ToG Recreation Services is providing plenty of ways to stay active and warm indoors!

This year, the Recreation Services Department is bringing you some great new initiatives that fall inline with the department’s mission to facilitate a healthy and vibrant community for residents and visitors through effective operations of all Town facilities and support for existing and new user groups. We believe that community buildings like the Rec Plex are important because they provide the opportunity for residents to stay active. They also provide a variety of activities for those that want to add to or supplement their winter routine!

This fall we are continuing our Universal Pass Program and $5 drop-in pricing, in an effort to compliment the programing offered at the Mount 7 Rec Plex and Golden Arena. A $130-membership - or $5 drop-in fee – gets you access to any drop-in activity offered at the facilities. That includes badminton, volleyball, basketball, European Football and Winter Walking. We also introduced a new drop-in program this month at the Rec Plex – Pickleball has arrived in Golden!

But it doesn’t end there. The Universal Recreation Pass also grants access to Aquafit classes at the Ramada hotel, drop-in shinny at the Arena and Public Skate! ToG Recreation Services also offers a family puck-and-stick hour Saturdays at the Arena – also accessible with a Universal Pass.

“The ToG Recreation Services Team wants to do more with the community’s facilities and to do more, we need your help,” says Manager of Recreation Services, Jordan Petrovics. “That’s why we encourage people to sign up for our Volunteer program this year! We want to make it easy for people to offer programming of their choice. The volunteer program works hand-in-hand with the $5 drop-in fee and Universal Recreation Pass. The more volunteers that come on board, the more programming we can offer to the community!”

New this season, ToG Rec Services has partnered with some volunteers to pilot drop-in women’s hockey and drop-in Silvertips hockey. For just $10 you can drop in and play! The Town is also hoping to pilot a men’s rec drop-in hockey night – we just need a volunteer to champion the program!

It is easy to become a volunteer. Simply get in touch with us and let us know what kind of program you would like to facilitate. Then, sign up to be a volunteer! We will provide the liability coverage required to run a program and will set you up with access to the facility. It only takes an hour of your week and you get the benefit of taking part in an activity you enjoy!

The Recreation Services Department is looking for your ideas on how to grow existing drop-in programing and introduce new activities. Be a part of the action, for yourself, your family and friends!
