Statistics

Golden Statistics

The population of Golden is presently estimated by BC Stats, at 4,373, representing about 8.4% of the Columbia-Shuswap Regional District population. A further 3,155 (2001 Census of Canada) live in the surrounding rural area. About 35.1% of the employment is in the service sector.

Nearly all of the Town is served by the municipal water and sewer systems. The Town's drinking water comes from a series of deep wells, linked together to 4 reservoirs. Twenty-four km of sewer lines carry effluent away from homes and businesses. The Town's sewage treatment plant was upgraded in 2004 to increase capacity for the next 20 years.

Anchored by two major industrial employers, CP Rail and Louisiana Pacific, the Town strives to keep taxes in the residential sector affordable. The Town has a stated goal of keeping residential tax increases to less than 5% per year and tries to use a "pay as you go" philosophy for capital projects.
